In Reply To Tiiming Map Changes Fixed On/Off Throttle Smoothness and... posted by Gordo 93TT Daytona on August 25, 2012 at 07:23 PM

Message The stock maps and most aftermarket maps I've seen have some pretty aggressive "plateaus". My only assumption for these is tuners often find it easier to grab groups of cells to modify all at the same time (ie Pgup/Pgdn in Nistune), but don't take the time to smooth the transitions between these plateaus. I will say, though, that I see this in fuel maps more than I do in timing maps, but even there it has a surprisingly noticeable effect, especially in how the car responds when you gradually increase the throttle.

That's not to say this is true of all vendors, though. Ashspec fuel maps, for example, are a work of art.

Just to give you an example of the fuel map changes I've made, here's a stock TT fuel map:

And here's my current basic 370CC tune's fuel map.

Now, aside from that, I will say the changes made to your timing map are pretty drastic for something I would otherwise consider superficial, and I share ztuner's concerns about gas mileage and performance slipping. My fuel and timing map changes were done to improve how the car feels throughout the RPM/load range, not so much to change how it feels on/off throttle. The reason you're feeling less harshness when transitioning to on/off throttle is because when you're giving it throttle, the car is making significantly less power when accessing cells that lost over 20 degrees of timing. There's nothing wrong with smoothing the "transition" between cells, but I wouldn't do this at the expense of power, personally.
